There Goes My Hero

A week ago tomorrow I met one of my heroes: Eddie Vedder.

I can't say I was perfectly together or that I had exactly the conversation that I would have liked to have (I can't believe I forgot to tell him that I'd seen the Who the night before) that I wanted to but I was able to express my gratitude for his 15 years of great music and we had a nice little conversation. He seemed extremely appreciative of what I had to say and he gave me a guitar pick.

It was a really great night beyond meeting him and eventually I'll blog about it all but for now I'll just say that it'll be a long time before I forget meeting him.

Dont the best of them bleed it out,
While the rest of them peter out,

You Remember Reagan Democrats well what about Clinton Republicans?

For those of you who aren't thoughtless knee jerk conservatives (or who don't have an irrational and visceral hatred for all things Clinton) there's a very good argument that Clinton was the better CONSERVATIVE than W. . . But hey it wasn't thoughfulness and intelligence that got Bush elected twice, now was it?

Some Things Are Just Too Good

Some things in life are just too good. They are so absurd in terms of being excellent that they can ruin a genre for you just by virtue of the realization nothing will ever touch them. Pete Townshend's songwriting and guitar playing, Martin Short's comedy, Eddie Vedder's voice, A-Rod's baseball ability. These things have compromised others in their field for me, but one figure stands alone in this respect: Olney, MD (shout out Demond!) native Frank Miller whose Batman: The Dark Knight Returns ruined comic books for me forever just because I knew immediately no comic book could ever touch it. I bought all four original printings as they came out and still have them, untouched and unread (I read other copies) safely stored in an undisclosed location. They are the crown jewel of my extensive comic book collection.

And without further ado: Enjoy this animated (and much less compelling, but still true enough to the original to be interesting) version of the original.

In the garage,
I feel safe,
No one cares about my ways,
Moses
